Detroit's Mariners Church To Hold Annual 'Blessing Of The Fleet' Service Sunday

By Niraj Warikoo, Detroit Free Press

A historic church in downtown Detroit dedicated to mariners will hold its annual "Blessing of the Fleet" Sunday morning during services, a tribute to the ships that operate on Michigan's waterways.

Founded in 1842, Mariners Church -- on Jefferson Ave. next to entrance of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel -- was created as a place of worship for seamen. For the past 48 years, the Anglican church has held an annual service that blesses ships.
